MULLINGAR GOLF CLUB

World Class Golf Venue

Welcome to

Mullingar Golf Club

Mullingar Golf Club is located at Belvedere, Mullingar, 5km south of the town centre and just off the main N52 [Nenagh – Dundalk] route, 80km west of Dublin along the M4/N4.

The course layout is the work of famous Scottish golf course designer and 5 times Open Champion James Braid [1870 – 1950].  Although some changes have been made since its creation in 1935, Mullingar is essentially as its designer intended, a championship challenge set in a mature wooded parkland that was once part of the Belvedere Estate.

The course runs to 6,685 yards with a classic par 72 balance of 10 par 4’s, 4 par 5’s and 4 par 3’s.  It’s routing is player friendly, returning to the club house at 3, and 9.

All four par 3 ‘s are feature holes, but the 209 yard second is the signature hole, with its elevated tee and green it is considered one of the best par 3’s in Irish golf.

“It is the best and most important Scratch Cups in the country and a tough one to win.”

Philip Walton

1982 Mullingar Scratch Cup Winner

“The hospitality and welcome from the members will always stand out, notably Joe Healy, Albert Lee and many others.”

Gary Murphy

1995 Mullingar Scratch Sup Winner

“Winning The Scratch Cup in 1996 was a dream come true for me. The course challenges every part of your game from long irons into small greens to tricky pin placements for your short game.”

Peter Lawrie

1996 Mullingar Scratch Cup Winner

A Message from Our Captains,

Sheila Cassidy - Ladies Captain

Andrew Maslin - Men’s Captain

We are truly honoured to assume the roles of Captains for the year 2024.

Leading Mullingar Golf Club is not only a duty but a privilege, and we are grateful for the ongoing support and well-wishes we continue to receive.

Our success is a collective effort, thanks to the exceptional team of dedicated staff, trustees, and committees. The loyalty and commitment of our members, who generously contribute their time, ensure the seamless operation of the club year after year.

We eagerly anticipate working alongside David Perdisatt and his team, maintaining our parkland course at its best. The upcoming course developments in early 2024 promise exciting new possibilities.

Special thanks to Serena and Mila in the office for their diligent work, contributing to the smooth functioning of the club. To Hon, Gerry, and the entire bar and catering staff, your warm welcome, delightful food, and impeccable service do not go unnoticed.

The arrival of our new club Professional later this year is another highlight on the horizon.

We extend our best wishes to our teams and managers, urging all members to show their support whenever possible.

Throughout the year, we look forward to connecting with you on the fairways and at the 19th hole. Here’s to a fantastic year for all.

Thank you.

Yours in Golf

A James Braid Course

Established in 1894

The amateur course record stands at 64, set by Gareth Shaw (Lurgan G.C.) when winning the Mullingar Scratch Trophy in 2005.  Since 1963 the venue plays annual host to the Mullingar Scratch Trophy one of the leading amateur golf tournaments on the Irish calendar.  Over the years, the best amateurs in the game have competed in, and won this tournament.  Previous winners include the legendary Joe Carr, major winners Padraig Harrington, Darren Clarke and Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry, twelve Walker Cup players and a half a dozen Ryder Cup team members as well as numerous Irish International team players.

The feature par three second at a little over 200 yards is probably still one of the best par three holes in the country, and was left largely untouched when the club decided to upgrade the course in the early noughties, work which included USGA standard greens and tees; strategic bunkering and the relocation of four greens, with respect and sympathy for the Braid design.

This latter work was delivered to the design of renowned professional and designer David Jones.  The open plan spacious clubhouse was extended from its original structure in the early 1990s.
