This attractive regional fourball inter club competition was instituted in 1985 as The Bloomfield Cup, generously sponsored by the club’s next door neighbours. The Bloomfield House Hotel. This competition proved very popular as it was a novelty to be playing the fourball match play format – five pairs with a three/two home/away split. The inaugural winner was Bodenstown golf club and the event attracted entries from the four provinces.
In 1999 The Bloomfield Hotel ceased its sponsorship and thenceforth the title of the event and Trophy changed to The Tudenham Cup with numerous different sponsors. It is currently sponsored by Smiddys Bar, Dominic Street. Mullingar.
Apart from it’s popularity due to its format, the club in order to maximise the entries, waits until after the preliminary rounds of the Jimmy Bruen and Pierce Purcell area qualifiers were done to close entries giving those in the competitions handicap range who were eliminated a way to continue inter club golf.
